Our Mission
Boulderwood Sanctuary is a growing 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to providing lifelong care for neglected, abused, and abandoned small farm animals and small exotic animals.
We also offer a space for people to reconnect with animals and nature, fostering compassion, mindfulness, and respect for all living beings.
In addition, our founder is a Rhode Island–licensed wildlife rehabilitator, providing care for injured and orphaned small mammals with the goal of stabilizing, treating, and safely returning native wildlife to the wild.
Wildlife rehabilitation is conducted separately from sanctuary care. Wildlife is not housed long-term at Boulderwood and is not part of the resident sanctuary population.

Our Story
Boulderwood Sanctuary was founded by Elisha, a Rhode Island–licensed wildlife rehabilitator of nine years and passionate nature advocate.
What began as a small rescue effort is growing into a peaceful sanctuary for displaced small farm animals and small exotic animals, alongside a broader mission of fostering connection between people and the natural world.
The sanctuary is currently developing its first enclosures and facilities to support lifelong care and rehabilitation. As resources grow, Boulderwood will continue to expand its capacity for domestic and small animal rescue and care.
Wildlife rehabilitation is provided separately by the founder under state license, focusing on small mammals with the goal of stabilizing, treating, and returning native wildlife safely to the wild.
Wildlife is not housed long-term at Boulderwood and is not part of the resident sanctuary population.
In addition to animal care, Boulderwood will gradually expand into educational outreach, volunteer opportunities, and limited, intentional experiences that encourage respectful connection with animals and nature.
Boulderwood’s story is one of compassion, restoration, and steady growth — and it is just beginning.

Boulderwood Sanctuary is focused on domestic animal rescue and care. Wildlife rehabilitation is provided separately under state license.
Animal Rescue & Sanctuary Care
We provide safety, rehabilitation, and lifelong sanctuary for small farm animals and small exotic animals who have experienced neglect, abuse, or abandonment.
Wildlife Rehabilitation
Wildlife rehabilitation is conducted by a Rhode Island–licensed home wildlife rehabilitator, focusing on injured and orphaned small mammals with the goal of stabilizing, treating, and returning native wildlife safely to the wild. Wildlife is not housed long-term at Boulderwood and is not part of the resident sanctuary population.
Education & Outreach
Boulderwood offers education and future community programming designed to foster empathy, awareness, and a deeper connection to nature. These efforts encourage respectful stewardship of animals and the natural world.

Our Philosophy
Boulderwood Sanctuary operates with the belief that kindness toward animals and respect for the natural world are deeply connected.
Every act of compassionate care — whether in animal rescue, wildlife rehabilitation, or daily stewardship — contributes to a more thoughtful and responsible relationship between people, animals, and the environment.
We believe every animal deserves appropriate care rooted in their needs and natural place in the world, whether that means lifelong sanctuary or safe return to the wild.
Our goal is to create a space that reflects these values through ethical animal care, responsible wildlife rehabilitation, environmental awareness, and intentional, grounded living.

A Note From Elisha
“Boulderwood isn’t just a sanctuary for animals — it’s a reminder that healing often begins in the quiet moments spent among them. Every life we save here carries a message of hope, and every visitor who leaves takes a little of that magic with them.”
This includes both our permanent sanctuary residents and the licensed care we provide to individual wildlife, helping small mammals recover and return safely to the wild.
